Frequently Asked Questions

It’s normal to feel nervous, especially about the first session. You might feel jumbled up, not sure where to start, or wondering if it will feel safe enough to share what’s been going on. We’ll find that place together, but I’ll also want to know some general things, like what brings you to therapy and a little background about you. You’ll have a chance to ask me questions too.

There’s no pressure to commit because it has to feel like a good fit to both of us. You can take your time deciding whether you want to book another session (leave it open ended), or let me know during the first session or after.
If I don’t think I could be as helpful to you as you need, I’ll let you know and offer referrals to someone who might be a better fit.

This happens. If you’re feeling that way, it’s important to bring it up in a session as part of your therapy. This is strongly encouraged because taking the opportunity to speak up and say what you really think in a session can be corrective, and is good practice for what happens outside of the therapy room.
You’re not under any obligation to continue, and I can provide you with referrals to other therapists who may be a better fit, based on what you feel you need.

I work with anxiety, depression, relationship issues (marriage, family, parenting, friendship), divorce, recurring patterns, self-awareness and identity, and the general knowing that something is off.
We all have painful challenges that come up throughout our lives that give us an opportunity to become ourselves more fully. Through dedicating my life to this work, to my own growth, and education, I’ve realized that a lot of current struggles are connected to something we experienced in the past, often in childhood, while we were developing our sense of self. Those experiences play out in our present life without us ever really realizing it, becoming the patterns and beliefs that draw us to similar people, situations, and reactions over and over.
By understanding those deeper patterns, we can grieve what we didn’t get and begin to more consciously choose what we create in our lives.

Therapy works slowly, over time, based on how much trust, warmth, and acceptance exists in the therapuetic relationship, and how much interest you have in reflecting on yourself. The more comfortable you become with sharing what’s coming up for you, the better I can understand you and how your experiences have shaped you. As the work continues, it naturally moves into deeper layers, and that’s where some real and lasting changes can happen.
Sessions are roughly 50 minutes and ideally take place on the same day and time each week. Some people choose to come twice a week, so if that interests you, we can talk about it in a session.

I’m currently accepting Aetna, Anthem BCBS, Carelon, and Cigna. If you’re paying privately, click here to find out more. I reserve a couple of lower fee slots based on need, and can provide a superbill for insurance reimbursement.
