About Me

I knew from the time I was young that I was deeply interested in people and the mystery of life. I remember looking out of the backseat car window into the car next to us, stopped at a red light, and wondering about them. Who were they? Where did they live? What was their life like? Is it like mine? In elementary school, I became fascinated with dreams and would go around telling anyone who asked that I wanted to be a ‘dream analyst’ (whatever that was!).

But it wasn’t until my early 30’s that I committed to training to become a therapist. I had been through significant difficult family situations and the loss of my father, and had begun my own personal therapy. It was then that I realized I still loved the mystery of inner life and wanted to learn as much as I possibly could.

Since then, I’ve trained in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, which is the foundation of how I work. I’m also somatically informed, meaning our nervous system and body physically hold and express past pain during present moments. It can show up in the throat, chest, and gut, communicating that a present stressor is related to a past one. Developing awareness around these signals can be an open door to the past, where we can feel what’s been left behind, like an abandoned child who’s been waiting for someone to come back for them. I’ve also started writing more in the past year, hoping to share with others what I’ve learned through my work, personal difficulties, and adventures.

I hold a masters degree in social work from Adelphi University, and have been in clinical practice for 7 years.
